A postdoctoral position is available in the Molecular and Nanoscale Cancer Therapeutics Laboratory (http://www.public.asu.edu/~krege/) in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Arizona State University in Tempe, AZ effective immediately.
The postdoctoral scientist will be responsible for investigations into the mechanisms of nanoscale and combination therapeutics for the advanced cancer phenotype.
The nanotherapeutics project will involve conjugation chemistries for the generation of antibody-nanoparticle assemblies, investigations into cellular uptake, intracellular trafficking, and mechanisms of cell death (e.g. apoptosis assays) induced by these constructs in prostate cancer cells. The project on combination treatments involves the identification and mechanistic elucidation of molecules that sensitize resistant cancer cells to death receptor-mediated apoptosis.
The postdoctoral researcher is expected to have background experience in cell biology techniques (e.g. Western blots and RT-PCR, confocal and routine fluorescence microscopy, transfections, etc.). Experience with molecular biology techniques (cloning, etc.) is also desired.
The postdoctoral scientist will have opportunities to interact with cancer biologists, bioengineers, and medicinal chemists at the Mayo Clinic in Scottsdale, AZ and the Biodesign Institute at Arizona State University as part of research collaborations.

ASU is a Research I University with outstanding research facilities and infrastructure support and is located within the rapidly growing metropolitan Phoenix area with 3.5 million people. The university is in the process of transforming into one of the nation’s leading public metropolitan research universities, marked by recent establishment of several centers of excellence, including the Arizona Biodesign Institute (http://www.azbio.org), Flexible Display Center (http://flexdisplay.asu.edu/) and International Institute for Sustainability http://sustainability.asu.edu/)">(http://sustainability.asu.edu/).
Successful candidates will be expected to develop and maintain internationally recognized, externally-funded research programs, teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and participate in service activities in the departmental, college and university.
A PhD in Chemical Engineering or related field and a record of publications in scholarly journals appropriate to the desired appointment level is required. Applicants for assistant professor positions must show exceptional promise in research and teaching, whereas applicants for associate/full professor rank must have demonstrated excellence in research and teaching appropriate to rank. Candidates in all areas of research specialization relevant to chemical engineering will be considered, with preference given to those who are in the areas of energy, biomolecular engineering and advanced materials. Potential for successful interaction with ASU’s existing centers of research excellence is also desirable.
ASU is an affirmative action/equal employment opportunity employer and is dedicated to recruiting a diverse faculty community. We welcome all qualified applicants to apply, including women, minorities, individuals with disabilities and veterans.
Interested candidates must submit a letter indicating research specialization and desired rank, a research plan, a teaching philosophy and plan, a current curriculum vitae including names, telephone, mail and email addresses of four references to Prof. Jerry Y.S. Lin, Interim Chair, Department of Chemical Engineering, Arizona State University, Campus Box 6006, Tempe, AZ 85287-6006.
